Crayon Box: Coloring Outside the Lines

It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.
— Pablo Picasso

On Wednesday, May 16th, 2018, Flance held our first fundraising event featuring our arts enrichment programming with our preschoolers. We hosted our event at the Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis. With assistance from our arts enrichment specialist Quincy (from SIUE), we displayed some select pieces of art from our preschoolers at the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM). Guests were able to get a private tour by the Executive Director of CAM, Lisa Melandri. At the end of the event, we honored our retired Board of Director President, Ron Jackson, and presented the first annual "Ron Jackson Educator of the Year Award" to our preschool teacher, Phyllis D. Robinson.

We want to thank all of our donors, supporters, board members, staff, and families. WIthout your support and championing of Flance, we could not support unique programming like our arts enrichment.

A special thank you to our sponsors: Advantage Capital, Express Scripts, Major Brands, McCormack Baron Salazar, PNC, and Trivers.

At Flance, we are shaping young minds and building relationships that last a lifetime. We know a strong early educational foundation in the first five years will continue throughout a child's life. We believe in the power of our own mission to provide high-quality early childcare in a diverse community of families and children.

Your support can help grow our dream and mission at Flance Early Learning Center.

Vroom at Flance!

Vroom + Flance

New science tells us that our children’s first years are when they develop the foundation for all future learning. In fact, 90% of the brain is developed by the age of 5. Every time we connect with our children, it’s not just their eyes that light up—it’s their brains too! Vroom turns shared moments like these into brain building moments. Whether it’s mealtime, bathtime, or anytime in between, there are always ways to nurture our children's growing minds. Flance encourages all parents to download the free “Daily VROOM” app and use it everyday!

The Daily VROOM app is unlike any other. It is backed by science and was developed in collaboration with leaders in neuroscience, behavioral economics, parenting, and early childhood development. While the scientists behind Vroom study the brain, you have the practice! Below are a few tips for using VROOM.

1.       Download the app! Search for “Daily VROOM” in your app store.

2.       Create profiles for your child(ren). The app provides age appropriate tips and activities for multiple children ages 0 to 5.

3.       Read the tip, put your phone aside, do the activity, mark it complete. It’s that simple! You don’t even need to keep the app open to do the activity.

4.       Every day is filled with ways to build your child’s brain, but setting a daily reminder in the app will prompt you to enjoy your brain building activity with your child.

Have questions, ask your child’s teacher or contact Risa Brown, Project Coordinator for Vroom, rbrown@lumeinstitute.org
